James Yoo is the Chief Scientific Officer at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. His institute is devoted to exploring new ways to developing new, life-changing therapies for medical patients. At present, 3D printing is high on their list of priorities. Through the emerging magic of bioprinting, Yoo and his team are optimistic about being able to implant people with bioprinted tissues within the next ten years.
The institute has already had some impressive success demonstrating the potential of lab-built organs. Artificially engineered bladders were implanted into patients to great success. Further, through their “Body on a Chip” program, the team printed out miniature versions of hearts, lungs, blood vessels, and livers to serve as a safe and effective way to test the effects of drugs. Now, with the help of a range of different printers, Yoo is hopeful about expanding their success to greater, more practical use.
Indeed, there is no limit to the potential of 3D printing to transform our lives. Consult our Seattle rapid prototyping service to learn more about what this exciting technology can do for you.
