The 3D printing industry is always on the lookout for revolutionary new materials to print out more sophisticated products. Now, many printers are finding their salvation in the form of new filaments made out of graphene.
Graphene is a truly exceptional material, coming in the form of carbon atoms that have been arranged into a flat sheet of repeating hexagon patterns. The result is the very hardest substance on Earth, even exceeding that of the diamond. Graphene can even be constructed to be a single atom thick, so thin that it can actually be classified as a two-dimensional object.
3D printing companies appreciate graphene not only for its hardness, but also its conductivity. With an ability to conduct electricity better than copper, it is providing a strong means to create printable electronics.
The first commercially available graphene filaments hit the market on March 16th of this year. This filament is usable in many conventional home printers.
